L’Abbaye-Château
Camon is a Benedictine abbey dating back to the 10th
century which dominates the beautiful little village of
Camon,
ten minutes from the medieval town of Mirepoix and 35 minutes from Carcassonne
airport. This is one of the last wilderness
regions in
Europe, which is steeped in history of the Cathars and the knights’
templar with the majestic Pyrenees as a backdrop This
historic
monument is now a extremely
unique six-bedroom chambres d’hôte,
with character in abundance..
The
large bedrooms are classically French
with fat goose down duvets and cool cotton sheets.
Peter and Katie’s aim is simple: genuine
hospitality without fuss in
sumptuous surroundings. The beautifully decorated
bedrooms and baths have all the modern conveniences to
pamper you on your stay with us.
After a wonderful nights sleep, you'll be ready to indulge in our
scrumptious breakfast that is by no means small. Our
delicious
breakfast consists of fresh squeezed orange juice, fresh fruit salad,
croissants and pains au chocolat, baguettes, honey, jams Spanish
ham and local cheeses. Breakfast is served from 08:30 to 11:00.
Food is an important part of the experience here:
local, seasonal and fresh food cooked simply with an emphasis on
flavour and quality.
If you will advise us the night before or the morning of the same
night, we will prepare dinner for you. The most wonderful part
about
dinner [weather permitting] is to serve you out on the terrace by
candlelight, overlooking the Pyrenees. The view of the
Pyrenees as
shown on our home page, it is truly a moving experience. Please
notify us if you have any food allergies or intolerances prior
to your
arrival.
We also cater private special occasion or business dinners [up to 30
people], set in an elegant and warm and inviting
atmosphere. We
have one menu [with three courses], to ensure that everything is fresh.
Our meals are not frilly or nouvelle, but simple, tasty and the
best quality of fresh and seasonal foods locally grown that include some
wonderful French cheeses.
In
the winter log fires burn in the salon, decorated with 18th
century canvasses depicting the four seasons, and in the summer
meals
are taken on the terrace overlooking the mountains or by the pool next to
the 200 year-old magnolia tree. The cloistered garden, which
was designed for prayer and reflection, is where you can enjoy utter
tranquillity. Enjoy the park and gardens, it's
quite lovely to stroll
about [or for daily jogging] with a feeling of total calmness and peace of
mind.
The
abbaye-château is also available for exclusive use, so you can
have the whole place to yourselves.
